6. Doctor of Design Program Seeks to Transform Design Education in the 21st Century

In November 2019, the University of Calgary's School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape (UCalgary SAPL) announced its new Doctor of Design (DDes) program targeted towards practicing architects, planners, and landscape architects looking to "leverage their existing expertise into new areas of innovation." While institutions within the United States offer such programs, UCalgary is the first to launch a DDes program in Canada. Currently, the program has two active DDes cohorts that began in 2020 and 2021 with a total of 16 candidates located in Canada, Nigeria, Nepal, and Saudi Arabia. To better understand the program Archinect connected with program critic Marcelo Stamm, Ph.D., and DDes candidate Barry Johns.
7. Google Canada commits $600,000 to reskill Indigenous job seekers for new careers in technology

TORONTO, Dec. 15, 2021 /CNW/ - Today, Google Canada announced a $600,000 commitment to provide free digital skills training to Indigenous job seekers across Canada. The support includes a $500,000 Google.org grant towards ComIT's Recoding Futures IT training program, an additional $100,000 in funding to support Indspire with their education and job training programs and an allocation of Google Career Certificate scholarships for Indigenous job seekers. Today's support is in addition to Google Canada's $2 million commitment to reskill job seekers for new careers in technology in under six months, announced earlier this year.

10. Holograms Add Depth to Remote Classes

Holographic technology has the potential to bring 3D interactivity to the classroom, enriching remote learning for K–12 students and teachers.
 
Technically, they’re not all holograms, according to Paul Christie, founder and CEO of Liti Holographics. But these advances do hold promise for education, including remote teaching, classroom simulations and make-your-own hologram kits.
