Dear Thought Leader,
Happy first day of Summer! Today also marks 'National Indigenous Peoples Day,' a day recognizing and celebrating the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Indigenous peoples of Canada.
As the school year draws to a close, it's a great opportunity to reflect, celebrate student achievements and innovations in post-secondary and K12, and to look ahead to summer professional learning opportunities, and dare I suggest Back2School planning!
There is no shortage of insights and inspirations in this issue. Check out a few highlights below:
- Be sure to have a listen to the impressive University of Western Ontario Student and Canadian Armed forces reservist, Emmanuel Akindele, Founder and CEO at Blue Guardian
- Recorded C21 Canada CIO Alliance webinar. It was an honour to moderate last week's webinar on Cybersecurity and Data Privacy on the heels of a Canadian school district recently being compromised. Be sure to have a listen to it in this issue.
- ISTE22. As proud media partners, we're off to New Orleans next week to bring you the latest insights and trends in EdTech at the largest conference in North America that returns to the first-in-person event in three years. Drop me a note if you plan to attend and would like to connect! We're excited to be hosting our 24th CanAm Celebration of Excellence Meetup at ISTE22 New Orleans. Click here to register.
- Congrats to our partner McGill U on their #1 Ranking in Canada! I'm just back from planning meetings at the faculty of education in preparation for our 13th Canadian EdTech Summit, October 19-20. It was fortuitous to mix in a little pleasure with our valued Dell Technologies partner, attending the Formula 1 Grand Prix. I really came to appreciate the innovation behind F1, driven by a growth mindset and always striving for excellence. It really resonated for me given the relatability to education. It's no wonder eSports is gaining a lot of traction in education with students. Did you know there are 140 sensors in an F1 car?
- Big News from Applyboard--New Analysis Identifies 35 Canadian Tech Companies on Path to $1 Billion in Annual Revenue.
- Don't miss tomorrow's sure to be fascinating webinar, Beyond the Pandemic, The Future of Digital Learning, featuring two EdTech Industry champions, Steve Brown, CEO, Nelson and Jason Bedford, VP, Class. Click here to register.

Educators in the 21st century are teaching diverse learners across a range of learning environments, while attending to critical issues related to equity, inclusion, and social justice. Now there's a resource to help you merge the essential skills of embedding culturally responsive teaching practices into online and in person learning settings. Using the Dynamic Equitable Learning Environments (DELE) framework, you can build the knowledge, awareness, skills, and dispositions to pivot instruction to facilitate equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist learning experiences that transcend cultural, social, and linguistic backgrounds, no matter where, when, or how your students do their learning.

Many young learners in preschool, kindergarten and the early elementary grades are still struggling from missed or interrupted learning opportunities. Now more than ever, research indicates that many students are not reading at grade-level. It is estimated that 25% of Canadian students, and 65% of American students, are not reading at grade level by the end of grade 3 and 4, respectively. Low literacy rates are even higher for marginalized students and the last few years of the pandemic have exacerbated the low literacy challenge. |
