This week in Canadian EdTech MindShareTV Podcast featuring Prime Minister STEM Teaching Award Recipient Zelia Capitao-Tavares in honour of World Teachers Day! |
|
|
Welcome to our special Canadian Thanksgiving edition of the CanAm EdTech Report.
We have much to be thankful for as one of the most desirable countries to learn, work and live. The foundation of any thriving country is a strong educational system (or systems in Canada's case) where innovation is part of its DNA.
This past week we celebrated International teacher day. Be sure to tune into my recorded MindShareTV podcast with the always inspiring, Zelia Capitao-Tavares, McMurrich Public School, TDSB, who was recipient of the Prime Minister Award for STEM teaching excellence.
We are further grateful for our much-valued neighbours to the south in the U.S. While you don't celebrate Thanksgiving on the same weekend, some of the top education & industry leaders are very much embedded in our learning community and highly represented in our upcoming Summit.
In this issue, we're excited to share critical insights, innovations, and research in the K12 & Higher Education space to help you optimize and refine learning with your students.

Innovation in the Classroom

The 2022–23 school year is underway, and MIT's instructors and teaching assistants are back in the classroom and laboratories. Each time they supplement their in-class lecture with a video, organize a new learning exercise, or even post their syllabi on Canvas, Sheryl Barnes hopes MIT Open Learning's Residential Education group made their jobs easier.
“Faculty have a lot of demands on their time, but they are also deeply committed to their students,” says Barnes, director of digital learning for residential education. “Our job is to help them optimize use of their own time to maximize learning for their students.”

The K-12 Cyber Awareness Month (CAM) campaign has been developed to help Ontario school boards promote safer and more secure practices across their school communities when using digital technologies and the internet by promoting best practices in cyber safety, cyber security, and online privacy in K-12.
The campaign is an adaptation of the internationally recognized October Cyber Security Awareness Month which is often mentioned in the media. ECNO, Ontario school boards and the Ministry of Education have developed this K-12 cyber awareness campaign for both English- and French-language school boards in Ontario. |

"When the pandemic hit, teachers were thrown into the deep end and quickly adapted over two years in remote and hybrid classroom settings.
As a result, teachers now have an earned comfort with digital tools in the classroom. In a recent report, nearly 90% of teachers said their ability to incorporate technology into instruction has improved, and 99% of teachers plan to continue using new tools and techniques that they adopted as a result of the pandemic."
